Sexuality, Morality and Law – Defending the Bar Dancers

Majlis has campaigned incessantly for Defending the Rights of Bar Dancers and has challenged the hypocritical moral positions adopted by state authorities. Initially  in 2004  we filed an intervenor application on behalf of bar dancers raising questions of police harassment and sexual molestation in custodial situations. Later when the state government implemented a ban on bar dancing, Majlis  held public meetings, brought out an investigative report titled, ‘Abuse of Power’ and successfully challenged the ban through a public interest litigation filed on behalf of the  Bharatiya  Bar Girls Union.
